VOX Mental Health Delivers Leadership Training at BrokerLink Barrie on Trauma-Informed Management and Radical Candor

VOX Mental Health was honoured to present a professional development training session at BrokerLink’s Barrie location, focused on leadership and managerial styles informed by attachment theory, trauma, and lived experience. The session was designed to support leaders in building psychologically safe, effective, and emotionally intelligent workplace environments.

Modern workplaces are increasingly recognizing that leadership is not only about performance and productivity, but also about understanding the human experiences that shape behaviour, communication, and team dynamics. This training provided managers with practical frameworks to lead with both clarity and compassion.

Trauma-Informed Leadership in the Workplace

A key focus of the session was understanding how attachment patterns, trauma histories, and lived experiences can influence workplace behaviour, communication styles, and interpersonal conflict.

Participants explored how stress responses and relational patterns may show up in professional settings, including challenges with feedback, authority, trust, and collaboration. By developing awareness of these dynamics, leaders are better equipped to respond thoughtfully rather than reactively.

The training emphasized that trauma-informed leadership does not mean lowering expectations—it means creating environments where expectations can be met with greater clarity, consistency, and psychological safety.

Introducing Radical Candor as a Leadership Framework

A central component of the workshop was the concept of Radical Candor, a leadership approach that balances direct, honest communication with genuine care and respect for the individual.

Participants learned how Radical Candor can improve team performance by encouraging:

  • Clear, timely, and constructive feedback
  • Open communication without avoidance or passive messaging
  • Stronger trust between managers and team members
  • Reduced misunderstanding and workplace tension
  • A culture where accountability and empathy coexist

We explored how avoiding difficult conversations often increases anxiety and confusion within teams, while clear and compassionate communication strengthens both performance and relationships.

Balancing Accountability and Empathy

The training emphasized that effective leadership requires both accountability and empathy. Leaders were encouraged to consider how their communication style impacts team members with different relational histories and stress responses.

By integrating trauma-informed awareness with Radical Candor principles, managers can deliver feedback in a way that is both direct and supportive, helping employees grow while maintaining psychological safety.

Practical Applications for Leaders

Throughout the session, participants engaged in applied discussion around real workplace scenarios, including:

  • Delivering constructive feedback in a way that reduces defensiveness
