Gift-a-Family was founded in 2023 by Amanda Patrick in memory of three young children who tragically lost their lives in her Barrie home when she was 13 years old. Rooted in her personal experiences of resilience and healing, the initiative was created to ensure that children who might otherwise go without are given the opportunity to experience the magic and excitement of Christmas.
Gift-a-Family works by matching individuals, families, and organizations with nominated families who would benefit from additional support during the holiday season. Through personalized wishlists, private communication with parents, and thoughtful coordination, donors are able to tailor each gift-giving experience to the unique needs and hopes of each child.
On delivery day, donors and families often meet in person, creating a powerful moment of connection where children feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
These experiences go far beyond material gifts, they help foster self-worth, belonging, and emotional joy during a time of year that can be especially challenging for families facing financial or personal hardship.
