VOX Mental Health was honoured to present a featured workshop titled “Understanding Your Nervous System: Why You Feel Wired and Tired” at Horseshoe Valley Resort’s For the Girls Weekend. This session was designed to help participants better understand the connection between stress, the nervous system, and everyday emotional and physical experiences.
Events like this provide an important opportunity to bring accessible mental health education into community wellness spaces, helping individuals learn practical tools for understanding their internal stress responses in a supportive and engaging environment.
Many people experience periods of feeling “wired and tired,” a state where the body feels both overstimulated and exhausted at the same time. This can be linked to how the nervous system responds to chronic stress, emotional load, and ongoing demands.
During the workshop, VOX Mental Health explored how the autonomic nervous system regulates states of activation and rest, and how prolonged stress can lead to dysregulation. Participants learned how these physiological responses can influence mood, energy levels, sleep, concentration, and emotional resilience.
By increasing awareness of these internal processes, individuals can begin to recognize what their bodies are communicating and respond with greater understanding and care.
The session at Horseshoe Valley Resort included an accessible, practical overview of:
The goal of the workshop was not only education, but empowerment, helping participants recognize that their experiences are often physiological, not personal failures.
Participants were introduced to simple, evidence-informed strategies that can help support nervous system regulation in everyday life. These included grounding techniques, breath awareness practices, sensory-based coping tools, and strategies for creating moments of intentional rest.
Emphasis was placed on building awareness of personal stress signals and learning how to respond earlier in the stress cycle, rather than waiting until overwhelm becomes intense.
These tools are designed to be realistic and accessible, supporting individuals in integrating regulation practices into busy daily routines.
VOX Mental Health is committed to meeting people where they are, both geographically and emotionally. By offering workshops in community and wellness settings like Horseshoe Valley Resort, we aim to make mental health education more approachable, practical, and widely accessible.
“For the Girls” Weekend provided a meaningful space for connection, reflection, and learning, allowing participants to engage with mental health content in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Understanding the nervous system is a foundational step in building emotional resilience. When individuals learn how stress operates in the body, they are better equipped to respond with self-awareness rather than self-criticism.
This shift can reduce feelings of shame, improve emotional regulation, and support overall well-being in both personal and professional contexts.
At VOX Mental Health, we are proud to offer workshops, trainings, and educational sessions that extend beyond the therapy room. Whether in schools, workplaces, or community events, our goal is to provide practical mental health knowledge that supports everyday life.
We are grateful to Horseshoe Valley Resort for the opportunity to contribute to For the Girls Weekend and to all participants who engaged in thoughtful discussion and learning throughout the session.
Together, we continue to build stronger, more informed communities where mental health is understood, supported, and prioritized.
